YEAR 1992, ENGLAND, EAST LONDON, WALTHAMSTOW, PO Box E.17, TONY, BRIAN, TERRY, JOHN and DOG LEVY – THEIR MASCOT, SINGLE HOUSE OF LOVE and IT’S ALRIGHT, COMPETITION TAKE THAT = EAST 17. They were led by songwriter Tony Mortimer, who successfully managed to combine some of the most popular music styles: R&B, Hip-Hop, American Rap and Pop. Since their appearance on the music scene they instantly became one of the most popular teen-group.
The band consists of: Tony Mortimer (b. Anthony Michael Mortimer, October 21, 1970), Brian Harvey (b. Brian Lee Harvey, August 8, 1974), Terry Goldwell(b. Terence Mark Colwell, July 21, 1974), andJohn Hendy(b. Jonathan Darren Hendy, March 26, 1971). They started with some demo songs and they were lucky to meet TOM WATKINS, who also launched the careers of Pet Shop Boys and Bros. He introduced them to the London Records, so East 17 started with their first single, House of love, supported by LONDON RECORDS. 600 000 copies of this single were sold. In 1993 they released their first album, Walthamstow which was #1 in England. They also started their first tour, for which they were preparing very hard and on which they sang without playback – Live.
Take the steam with East 17, in 1994 the second album was released,
Steam, which made them even more popular. 12 million copies were sold. Song Stay another daywas the top of their career, as it was the #1 in the whole world. Tony commented that this song was bought by the people that didn’t like them so much and that this song changed their future. With their second tour, Letting Of Steam, they rounded the whole Europe. They also got the MTV award for the best dance group and single Let it rain was played at the ceremony. Tony got the award for his writing, IVOR NOVELLO. In these year the whole world was turned to them and other dance groups just couldn’t make any success.
          The third album was
Up all night, which English critics evaluated as very mature, with high quality. Tony and Brian started quarreling after this album was released. Brian was living through a nightmare in his life: he beat up a newsreporter, left his wife, didn’t attend the preparations for concerts and to support the popularity of the single Hey, Child (released on 12th December 1996), he told one reporter that he swallowed 12 pills of Ecstasy and that he felt very good. BOOOM!!! They were put of all of the radio stations and top-lists, Brian is out of the band. They released Greatest Hits Around the world and they affirmed that they are not splitting up.
So, East 17 is DEAD! There is the Necrlolog! They were the best... they were... So.. that's all.......But they have the child -
E-17
