| Chisinau (Kishinev) is the capital of Moldova, with a population of 720,000. This five centuries old city is situated on the river Dnestr. It is 400 kilometres from Kiev, 350 kilometres from Bucharest (the capital of Romania), and 150 kilometres from Odessa. Among the places to see are the History and Regional Lore Museum, and the Museum of Art, which is housed in a 19th-century cathedral.
