| Moscow (in Russian Moskva) is the capital, an inland port, and largest city of Russia. Moscow, situated on Moscow river, is the economic, political, and cultural centre of Russia. It developed from a small fortress on the border with Suzdal principality into one of the largest city in the world. Moscow is the seat of the Russian government and the location of major banks, enterprises, educational and cultural institutions, representations of major international banks and companies, and the embassies of foreign states. Railroads and numerous airlines converge on the city from all parts of Russia and the other successor states of the USSR. Moscow is famous for its museums: Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, Tretyakov Gallery, Historical Museum.
